Jesser???
I get asked all the time if that is really my name!? No, it’s Jessica. But when I was a little girl my mom started calling me Jesser, and it stuck! I refer to myself as Jesser, and so do my friends, family, and anyone who knows me really. I prefer it! Recently I had a friend ask where that name came from? I had no idea!? Ha Ha! I called my mom. I said, “I know I am 38 years old, but where did you come up with the name Jesser?” She said when my sister and I were little, and we lived in the dark ages of not having a dishwasher, we were given the task of doing the dishes. I was the “washer” and my sister Emily was the “rinser”. My mom was always so great about coming up with rhymes and jingles to make work fun. She started chanting “Josser the Washer and Weezy the Rinsee!” Josser turned into Jesser, and it stuck! (Weezy for Emily is another story in itself! Our family is notorious for silly nicknames! Hence, Stockton is called Dingus)
All of my life I have been an on again off again journaler. When I was a young girl it started with a tablet, a pen, and the day to day happenings of school, friends, family, and life. As the years progressed and I went from being a teenager to a wife and then a mom, and I was in the thick of having five little ones, I would think, “How can I ever keep up on this!?” I would get overwhelmed and try to play catch up, leading to more overwhelm! At times my journaling would just stop all together. My sister-in-law and I have had many conversations about this very topic and one day she handed me a book. “Mom’s One Line A Day.” Just a line a day. I thought, “OK, I can do one line.” As the days went by and I filled each day with one line from the day, I began to have the desire to write more. One line wasn’t enough! So back I went to a tablet and pen.
I still write the day to day happenings and adventures of life as a mom and wife. These people I call mine are my everything. They are the reason I fight the good fight every day! Jesser’s Jots is a place to document our family’s crazy life, but also a place to write the ponderings of my heart, and a place to record and share what I am learning as a wife, mother, disciple of Jesus Christ, and “seeker” of goodness, truth, joy, and love.
